The UTMB® course
As part of your discovery of the legendary UTMB® race, it's time to look at the courses offered to competitors and understand the differences and the most important rules. You can find the route and GPX file, the race profile and the location of the refreshment points on the official race website.
The distances of the different events
The organisation of the UTMB® puts in place numerous events and not only the "real UTMB®". There are shorter distances to satisfy all levels of participants and also to welcome all those who are not lucky enough to take on the 171 kilometres of the main course. In total, there are 7 different events on offer to vary the pleasures!
Time limits
For most of these events, a time limit to complete the distance is set by the organisation. This is a maximum limit that must not be exceeded and which allows you to be classified among the finishers of the event in which you have chosen to participate.
Time barriers
In addition to the maximum time limits, there are time barriers for each event. These are maximum times after which you cannot leave a checkpoint. If you leave the checkpoint after the time limit, you are simply disqualified. These time barriers have been put in place for safety reasons and to avoid leaving all the infrastructure and organisation staff in place for too long.
Feed points
Fortunately, the organisation has also set up refreshment points. It is important to be aware of them and they are an integral part of your knowledge of the course in order to manage your nutrition as well as possible. There are several types of refreshment points (liquids, solids + liquids, with hot meals) and they are located at approximately regular intervals along the route. Each of them is listed in the runner's guide given to each participant.
