ULTRA preparation, our advice for a successful UTMB®
If you want to do the UTMB®, your preparation will be an essential phase. It must include a good training plan, good mental preparation, a rigorous diet and you must not neglect the registration phase for the event.
Training for the UTMB
It is important to prepare a calendar and a training plan for the UTMB with varied and specific exercises. They should cover all the specific needs for the event and provide you with the fundamentals such as endurance, running in altitude and adaptation to altitude.
Good mental preparation
Preparing the body without preparing the mind would be futile. An event like the UTMB requires real strength of character and solid motivation. A solid mental preparation will make it easier to face the inevitable difficulties on this type of course and to be ready on D-Day to overcome any lapses in morale.
A diet
Like any long-distance sporting event, the UTMB® requires specific dietary preparation to give the body the energy it needs to make the effort. This special diet should be built up over the months and in the last few weeks before the event, lead to very energetic meals, mainly based on carbohydrate intake.
Preparing for registration
The registration procedures for the UTMB® are quite specific and you must study them well in advance to prepare yourself and give yourself every chance of obtaining the precious sesame. Obtain your ITRA points in previous UTMB® events so that you can apply for the race distance of your choice.
