UTMB® registration formalities

There is one fundamental step in your preparation for the UTMB® : the registration formalities. And it is best to know them well so that you can prepare for them a little in advance.

What is the registration procedure?

An important point is to understand how the registration for the UTMB® works and what the rules are. It is then important to be able to plan other events to acquire the points needed for the qualification system and to be able to take part in the draw that will decide between the candidates who meet the minimum point thresholds.

ITRA points required to enter the UTMB®.

In order to have a chance of being drawn among the thousands of annual UTMB® candidates, you must acquire a certain number of ITRA points within a certain time period before the event. These points are accumulated in ITRA-regulated trail events and there is a specific scale for each UTMB® race. The races organised within the framework of the ITRA earn qualifying points which are then used to access other events. Each race can earn from 1 to 6 qualification points with 6 points corresponding to a long distance race and/or a race with a high altitude difference. A candidate who does not have the necessary points cannot therefore apply for the UTMB® and cannot participate, except in the more minor races where the application can be made by dossier.

Knowing the UTMB® rules

Finally, another point necessary for the registration formalities for the UTMB®: the regulations. They must be known and approved. You must know your obligations in terms of medical certificates and health monitoring. You must also be aware of the conditions of autonomy imposed during the event and understand the nature of the authorised refreshments. For example, for the flagship events such as the UTMB®, the CCC® and the TDS®, personal assistance is only authorised at certain refreshment points, in a specific zone. This assistance may only be provided by one person and this person may only carry a bag with a maximum volume of 30 litres. The regulations also specify that assistance by a team of professionals, or any medical or paramedical professional, is strictly forbidden. Finally, you should be aware, via the regulations, of the compulsory equipment that each participant must bring and the possible special weather kits that must be available, just in case.
