How to choose my shoes when hiking, trekking or trail running.


When it comes to choosing hiking or trekking boots, the most important factors are comfort, weight and durability. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Factors such as foot type, injury history, pack and body weight, in addition to some specific requirements of your environment, need to be considered.

Trekking Boots

High boots made of synthetic or leather have been one of the most popular choices among trekking shoes for many years. The waterproof upper is made of synthetic materials or a blend of synthetic materials and leather, such as suede or nubuck. The midsoles are usually made of shock-absorbing EVA, and outsoles made of durable rubber with lugs that grip slippery and/or uneven terrain.   

Hiking Shoes

'Hiking shoes' are essentially a hybrid of synthetic leather boots and trail running shoes. They have a low profile, just like trail running shoes, but use similar - though usually slightly less durable - materials in the upper, midsole and outsole to Trekking Boots.

What about trail running shoes?

Trail running shoes are the perfect outdoor footwear unless you're planning a long hike in very rough terrain or a winter trip in freezing temperatures. They strike a good balance between comfort, support, stability, grip, weight and breathability. Trail running shoes have stiffer, more supportive midsoles, non-slip outsoles, and uppers that usually offer more protection in key areas like the toe box, lower sides, and heel. 

Sport Sandals

High-quality sports sandals usually offer adequate cushioning and arch support, as well as outsoles with lugs. If you have strong ankles and a light load and walk on a stable path, they can be a great option.
