Whether you are going on a day hike or a multi-day trek, it is important that you are well prepared. Packing your hiking clothes and organising your outfit efficiently is a key factor to consider. Putting your clothes away beforehand

After each hike, it is important that you put your equipment and clothes away. This will allow you to anticipate your next outing and not waste time when packing.

First of all, it is important to clean your hiking gear after each trip. A quick clean on most equipment, shoes and delicate clothing will help prolong their life. Washing waterproof or breathable clothing such as your hiking jacket is also recommended once or twice a season.

To store your hiking clothes, we recommend hanging them on hangers or placing them in deep drawers. This allows them to breathe. It's also a good idea to have several boxes for your equipment, depending on its purpose. This allows you to find exactly what you need when you pack your bag.

Organising your hiking bag

Organising your hiking bag allows you to distribute the weight and maintain stability when you walk. Some items are also more easily accessible when properly packed.

When packing your hiking clothes in your bag, the technique is to roll up your clothes instead of folding them. This allows you to make the most of the space in your bag and fill in some of the empty spaces with your clothes. Remember not to overload yourself with clothes, only take what you need.

Trekking clothes are usually placed on the front of the bag. They are light and not too dense, and thus help to cushion the heavier items on the back. If the bottom of the bag is generally dedicated to the sleeping bag, it is also possible to put some clothes you might need, like a down jacket for example.

Organising your hiking gear

The easiest and most effective way to organise your outfit is to follow the three layer system. This will ensure that you have breathable, insulating and protective clothing. It is also important to have some clothing to complement your outfit. This may include a change of clothes; rain gear (e.g. overtrousers and a rain cape); clothing to protect you from the cold or heat; and evening and overnight clothing if you decide to bivouac.
