What to wear for the UTMB®
When you put together your race bag for the UTMB®, the clothes are very important: they must be able to protect you from the various weather risks and offer you good comfort during the race. This is why the choice of clothing for the UTMB® must be made in advance and ideally a few months before the event so that you can test it in real conditions and get used to it.
Mandatory waterproof clothing for the race
The UTMB® regulations require waterproof clothing to be included in your race bag. They are intended to protect you in case of bad weather (rain and snow) and must meet precise standards. They are likely to be inspected before the start and if you don't have the right waterproof clothing, you may be banned from the start. These two garments are a waterproof jacket with a hood and waterproof trousers. They must be at least 10,000 Schmerber waterproof and have specific characteristics. Choose them carefully because their quality will be essential if the race takes place in unfavourable weather conditions where discomfort is amplified and muscular fatigue is often greater.
Clothing for the UTMB
The ideal outfit for the UTMB® will of course vary from one runner to another, depending on their preferences and habits, but it must include certain essential clothing for your comfort and performance. This set of clothes for the UTMB® must at least include a warm jacket to ward off the vagaries of the thermometer, a technical t-shirt and shorts and trail trousers. Of course, you should also add the compulsory waterproof clothing seen above. A good warm jacket can be designed with technical fabrics to satisfy the most demanding of you. However, it must not be breathable, otherwise your perspiration will not be evacuated to the outside and you will feel like you are in a steam room and will paradoxically suffer from excessive damp heat. Choose a tight enough fit, but not too tight, so that you can move around easily, especially in the arms, which must be able to move around. For technical t-shirts, the EMANA® fibre is a good choice because it stimulates blood microcirculation and ensures thermoregulation of the body during exercise. CIMALP® trail shirts with this fibre offer you better support for your muscles, which are less tired during exercise and suffer fewer traumatic micro-injuries. In the same way, CIMALP® has developed running trousers and shorts for running and trail running that provide optimum muscle support. Their structure, thanks to its patented 3D-Flex technology, ensures excellent freedom of movement and optimal comfort.
