It's decided, you are used to ULTRAs, you have planned to do the UTMB®! A great challenge for sportsmen and women who are passionate about nature running in one of the most beautiful natural settings in the Alps. But doing the UTMB® requires preparation and a lot of knowledge about the race and its environment!

How do you prepare for the UTMB?

Preparation for the UTMB can be broken down into physical preparation and a real complete training programme, but also into mental preparation, which is essential to be resistant and motivated throughout the chosen route. Of course, your preparation will also require a real diet to be in top form and to provide your body with the necessary energy to face the kilometres of the race and the unevenness without respite! But preparation also means doing other tests beforehand so that your registration file can be selected for the famous UTMB draw!

Know the race!

If you want to do the UTMB you already know a little about the race. But you will need to know the race in detail, with the different routes available to you, its regulations and its imperative obligations (equipment, safety). Finally, knowing the UTMB also means becoming familiar with its history, its prize list, its legends who have won it several times, and it also means understanding the specificities of the 2023 edition, such as the live tracking, the ultra-trail trade show or the stars who will come to walk the same paths as you!

Preparing your stay in Chamonix

There will of course be a whole logistical aspect to your preparation for the UTMB. You will have to plan your stay in Chamonix, choose your mode of transport and prepare to book accommodation. You will also have to anticipate your material needs, such as the race bag to be prepared, the compulsory survival and safety equipment, and the management of food supplies. Don't forget that the UTMB rules give you the right to assistance at certain points along the route. This is also a point to consider and organise. Finally, you will need to anticipate the local weather and why not find some activities if you stay a few days in the area, especially if you come with your family! To find out more about the race, visit the official race website.
