Training for the UTMB®

The precise definition of your training will certainly be one of the major steps in preparing for the UTMB®. Planning and organising your training is vital in order to be able to ensure the workload necessary to do the event in optimal conditions, without risk of failure or injury.

Define a real calendar and training plan

One of the first exercises to be done is to set up a calendar/training plan which will define month by month and week by week the workload to be achieved and the nature of the exercises to be performed. It will also include intermediate objectives such as races or trails of lesser importance than the UTMB® but which you can include in your preparation. Finally, your training plan will also include specific stays in the mountains or shock weekends to complete your perfect preparation.

Training in the mountains and on the plains

It is obvious that if you are lucky enough to live in a hilly or even mid-mountain or high mountain area, you do not have the same resources at your disposal as if you have to prepare in a lowland area. But even if you live in a relatively flat area, there are still ways to train for mountain ultra trails and the UTMB® with specific exercises and a bit of travel.
