Athlete of the Italian Military Sports Center, Matteo Eydallin is a mountain lover! '21 and '23 Skimo World Champion and Cimalp ambassador for years, Matteo has more than one string to his bow.

Matteo is real "Montagnard" (a colourful French word used to describe people living high up in the Mountains and facing demanding climatic conditions): he's frank, humble, loves France and speaks French fluently (he's actually living in France, near Gap), is open-minded, and always ready for an adventure as long as it happens in the mountains: skiing, of course, but also rock climbing, sky running, cycling.

A further key aspect of our Italian ambassador is his grind, his fighting spirit and his determination to win. For several years, he chased the world champion title without succeeding. Always a little injury, a slightly unfair penalty... Almost like a curse. In 2021, he won the title! A real achievement for this battling athlete.

Matteo Eydallin Future Projects
  • The introduction of ski mountaineering as a " demo sport " for the '26 Olympic Games in Milano is an amazing incentive and gives me a lot of motivation. I would be extremely proud to join the Italian team. At 38 years old, I am as ambitious as a rookie!

Interview with Matteo
3 words that define you as an athlete?
Simplicity. Passion. Grind.
3 values that fit you as a person?
Mastery, independence and generosity
Why do you feel you belong to the Cimalp family?
We have been working exclusively on eyewear so far, but we have a few other projects in 2023 as I'm working with another CIMALP ambassador, Marie DORIN-HABERT, on a clothing collection. The geographical proximity (CIMALP's headquarters are located just 1h30 from my home) helps a lot and allows us to see each other and work together regularly. Anyway, there are no borders between the Italian and French Alps. We are part of the same territory, of the same family. And this is what I find in the CIMALP Family.
What are your best and worst mountain memories and why?
During my first Pierra Menta victory in 2009, I got hypoglycemia. One of the hardest days of my life. The best is yet to come, as the perspective of another day in the mountains is always the best!
What do mountains inspire you to do?
It's all about verticality. I love climbing! When Ski Mountaineering of course, but also in the summer when climbing in Ceüse, cycling the passes in the south of France or in Piemont, and of course, when sky running.
What is your relationship to the environment and ecology?
Less is more! I live in France in a very rural village, I have cats, a dog, and sheep. I love gardening, I eat locally, and I do not have a smartphone. I start from the principle that the best way to reduce our footprint is to consume less and stay away from "giant vortexes".
Another great passion/talent than sports?
Eating Italian food!
