WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE BUYING A PAIR OF SNOW BOOTS?

Depending on the activity you will be practising and the duration of exposure to the cold you will need to invest in snow boots that are appropriate for the conditions. For example, if you're going to be hiking in the snow on easy trails and shallow snow, it's worth opting for good, comfortable, thick-soled, mid-ankle snow boots. These provide better mobility. If you tend to have cold feet, you will need snow boots with a high level of insulation to keep you warm longer.
But if the route you're planning is more challenging and the session longer, we recommend higher boots, with multi-directional lacing, and above all waterproof to prevent your feet from getting wet.

When it comes to choosing the right snow boots for you, there are a number of criteria that will help you.

Waterproofness

The ideal snow boots should be waterproof to prevent the transfer of cold and moisture from the snow. This is essential, as keeping your feet warm and dry in these temperatures will prevent discomfort and the possibility of catching a cold later on.

Grip

This criterion is also of paramount importance because while snow is very pretty to look at, it can also be very dangerous.

Warmth

Snow means very low temperatures, so this is crucial. If you wear other footwear that is not suitable for this climate, you run the risk of getting your feet wet and cold. Unlike rain boots, which are only waterproof, snow boots should have thermal material inside. This helps to maintain the right temperature for your feet.

The type of socks you wear is also very important, as they will help keep your feet warm. Socks with moisture-wicking materials can be a great help. Last but not least, if the intensity of your activity is high, think about breathable snow boots, as it is not good to sweat in freezing temperatures.
